The Hells - Lovin up a storm in London

by Jon A

The Hells is a new London duo consisting of American dude Kev and Spanish girl Ippy, looking sharp àla “The Blow-Up” and kickin’ up a messy rock’n’roll reminiscent of Bo Didley, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion et al. They will be guesting Copenhagen in December, so via email here‘s your chance to get somewhat acquainted with them.

LC: The inevitable question: Another boy/girl r'n'r duo hot on the heels of White Stripes, The Kills, Raveonettes, you have probably met quite a few accusations of bandwagon jumping?

The Hells: “Not really, but if playing guitars and rock’n’roll is jumping on the bandwagon, then people have been jumping on the bandwagon since the times of Chuck Berry.”

LC: You seem to know your r'n'r history pretty well, so how do you see the future for The Hells: Chart success or cult status?

The Hells: “Knowing our rock n roll history, we'll probably go down in flames... so cult status, most likely.”

LC: One American and one Spaniard, how come you're based in London?

The Hells: “Oops. That was an accident. ”

LC: London is known as the record business center for r'n'r in Europe, how does this affect your goals for The Hells, or for that sake attempts at an underground scene? Is it swarmed by talent scouts out for the next Hives?

The Hells: “We have no talent, therefore we won't have talent scouts knocking at our doors. However, we get a lot of boy scouts at our shows.”

LC: What do you do aside from The Hells?

The Hells: “We work as talent scouts.”

LC: What are your plans and goals for the immediate future?

The Hells: “We just finished recording what will be our first album... thinking of names.”

Think of it as cool, rather than arrogant. The Hells might be your next big thing. In that case, you read about them here first.
