I havent bought a record from Estrus in several years
now. Two reasons: they mostly suck and for some reason they
are incredibly expensive here in Europe! But the first Mistreaters
LP on Big Neck rocks so hard that I simply had to get the
second one. It rocks even harder! It blows smoke right outta
Satans black ass and it makes most other bands sound
like a bunch of girlie sissies. I hope you believe it when
I claim I was a happy man when I got them hooked up with 1000Fryd.
Unfortunately we had Red Warsawa the same night and even worse,
in every possible respect, we had Nina Hagen here as well.
Apparently thats where most people went so nobody turned
out at 1000Fryd. Their loss. Local heroes-to-be (Im
sure) Dirty Lyle had already played at the same peace, love
and understanding festival that Frau Hagen headlined so they
turned up in fine form, and they kicked some solid ass with
their stoner trucker punk. Loads of Lowrider style stoner
riffing but played in a more redneck punk rock way. They are
from the eastern part of town so they have that authentic
streetwise hard rock attitude
and they look funny too!
It starts off really good, but gets too tiresome after 5 or
6 songs. The songs are a bit too alike and too much metal
takes over in some songs - and they should drop the Ramones
cover! The good songs are great though and they deliver the
goods on stage. This was their show number 5 so its
gonna be mighty interesting to see what they can make of it.
Mistreaters kicked so much butt in front of 15 people. Their
fucked up blues punk came blasting through the speakers. Equal
doses of Oblivians, Pussy Galore and Gories (they even played
a cover of them) crammed into a huge, loud ball of pure rock
action. Amazing! Lead singer Christreater delivered some mighty
fine Otis Redding moves and the band went from good to better
and better and in the end the PA went out (of course) and
they played two encores with the amps turned down and Christreater
singing through a megaphone shaped lampshade. I would have
liked it louder but it gave the whole thing a more family
like atmosphere. That was nice. Why nobody in Copenhagen booked
this band is unbelievable. They will be back in 2004 so maybe
someone should kick the bookers at Stengade in the groin area
and explain a few tings about rocknroll to them.
