Clean
Boys - Smarter Not To Die Better Of Stoned CDS
Too stoned to correct the typo on the cover, eh? These Danes
received a so-so Lowcut review for their previous cd, not
by me though, but I wasn't that impressed. This is much much
better even though the misspellings and strange bizarre comparisons
in the inner notes doesn't exactly help; 'Megadeth meets Judas
Priest and D.A.D. before they grew up' (?!). Utter nonsense,
what kinda dope are they smoking in Varde, Jutland? (And I
can have some? haha) The previous problem has been that Clean
Boys wanted to play both garagepunk, indie and metal with
no apparent direction, well I'm pleased to say they now got
their shit together on this release. Sort of. I'd describe
their style as a mix of 80s punk with 90s punk'n'roll and
some weird not too happening indierock influences, though
not so much it seriously hurts their brand of kickass guitardriven
punkrock. A band which is constantly evolving, look out for
them.

The
Moronics - Style Your Hair The Way The Moronics Like It! 12"
(Rockin' Bones)
Holy no-fi! This snotty Copenhagen garagepunk combo came and
went in the late90s/early00s like a ninja with a serious case
of ADD in the night. And if you were lucky you maybe caught
them supporting Guitar Wolf and Spaceshits which The Moronics
are somewhat similar to. "Style Your Hair..." consists
of 10 frantic noise bombs of pure fucked up wonderful teenage
rage on one side (45 rpm), Rip Off Records-style, recorded
(live?) in '99 by Robert "Hot Pockets" van der Giesen
in Groningen, Holland. The sound is supershitty like a turd
in an ice cream factory, but I like it. Limited to 300 copies.
Great 'big hair' Peter Bagge album cover.

 The
Psyke Project - Daikini CD (Cph-sound/VME)
I wasn't expecting much at all from this record: Not only
were my hopes down from the first couple of records in the
package it came in having been shit; but the stupid, pretentious
name, the undergraduate coverart, and the press release bigging
up the conceptual nature of the album ("Daikini is the
designation for the human race, with its unaccountable nature
and lack of respect for others when we're discussed by other
'creatures' in the world of the fairytale", will you)
all together made me expect something like Yes or King Crimson.
Putting on the album, then, was like a slap in the face, followed
by the full fist, again and again, then the boot ends digging
into your ribs once you're lying down and that sole coming
down heavily on your face. It's great, I suppose. Musically,
The Psyke Project lie somewhere between the screamo of this
decade and the post-hardcore of the late 80's and 90's, with
the rabid fury and speed of Refused mashed together with the
masochistic symphonic noise of Neurosis, and Tue Madsen of
Grope's brilliant production gives the band a death metallic
heaviness that's often lacking in screamo. Extremely pissed
off and blissfully raging. Excellent!
