'Mac' McLagan : All The Rage (Pan)
The legendary Small Faces/The Faces keyboard man tells it
all! From the swinging 60s psychedelic London mod scene with
The Small Faces, the coke and booze-fuelled 70s with the naughty
hardrockin' Faces, to hired hand on several Stones tours and
records; Mac's humor, wit and keen observation of those vital
years in rock'n'roll are highly addictive in all their candidness.
He spares noone but never with any malice (except the record
companies and managers), and talks openly about himself and
his drinking and drug binges. Steve Marriott comes off as
a complex tragic figure, Rod Stewart is a merry prankster
but somewhat full of himself, Ron Wood and Keith Richards
are easy going buddies. One of the most absurd stories is
when Mac 'stole' Keith Moon's ex-wife, and Moon The Loon hired
a thug to break his arms for 100 pounds. Pete Townshend then
gave the thug 200 ponds for NOT breaking Mac's arms!?! There's
tonsa tales about Bob Dylan (weirdo!), Howlin Wolf (Mac and
the Muleskinners backed him in the pre-Small Faces days),
as well a touching part of his family. "All The Rage"
is instant readable, one of those books you read in 2 days
with a glass of good red wine and smile on your face. A classic!
