Digger And The Pussycats + Monoton
- September 16th, Stengade 30, Copenhagen

By Jens

The Pussycats on Danish soil for the first time!! Saw Sam & Andy for the first time in London last year, and two weeks prior to this gig at Rotterdam Rumble (which they completely stole, hands down!), so I was more than ready for another dose of trashy rock'n'roll raunch, Melbourne-style. First up was Monoton which I haven't seen since 2003. Then their singer, Morten Havn, tragically died during complicated surgery, only 31. But thankfully they decided to carry on, and the new vocalist, Søren Vibjerg, did a mighty fine job tonite. The music hasn't really changed that much, it's still slow heavy crunchin' blues in the vein of Beast Of Bourbon and Nick Cave/Birthday Party. There wasn't a scratch DJ in this line-up which sorta pleased me (ain't too crazy about rap devices, though I met the guy backstage and of course told him I dug their new DJ-free sound better, haha). The set was mostly tunes from the upcoming "Greenwood" album.
The Aussie duo started out with "Motorbike" as usually, but the sound was pretty fucked up, by the 3rd song the sound guy got it right, and the band was off like a rocket. After Monoton's slow tempo set, Digger & The Pussycats really got the juices flowing among the audience with speedy energetic short songs of punk'n'roll fury. Wildman Andy pounded his two drums (no drumkit) and threw the sticks around like a possessed hyperactive kid, while Andy brutal geetar pickings blasted like a buzzsaw through the speakers. The boys haven't slept for almost 9 days, but tonite they gave everything they got, making this the very best show I have yet experienced. Highlights were "Fashion Victim", "Coming To Get You" (YOU DRIVE LIKE A CUNT!), "Thanks Alot" (dedicated to me and the missus, thanks guys) and Supercharger's "Stab A Motherfucker", which I'm certain Morten enjoyed. Sam ended the show by humping his guitar. Mission Perfect Rawk'n'Roll Accomplished! Me and the missus had them and Andy's lovely girlfriend, Jess (also merchandise seller), over for dinner the next day and they were truly beat and tired, but was glad to get some good eating and a lot of sleep, after I show them a couple of psychotronic films. They are on a looong Euro tour until February so they might come back to Copenhagen, so check'em out, you don't wanna miss the world's best live duo, now will you?
