Black Halos
– March 16th, Loppen

By Jens

My plan of seing both Digger & The Pussycats and Black Halos in one nite fortunately was a success, as I arrived in the Halos’ 4th song. Too bad I didn’t catch Lesbian Lipstick, sorry guys, heard good things about your Brokeback Mountain outfits, haha. The Canadian band were smoking, and singer Billy Hopeless had already covered himself in wax candles and continued his Iggy/Stiv Bators semi-naked stunts, great character that fella. I dig old school naughtiness. The guys have played like 45 gigs in 49 days, so they were a bit jaded but they were outerworldly tight and rocking, a lean mean fighting r’n’r machine which came across like more melodic version of Electric Frankenstein with several nods to The Dead Boys. We got some songs from their new ”Alive Without Control” album like ”Studio Suffering” ”Three Sheets To The Wind” as well as old songs ”Some Things Never Fall”, ”Last Of The 1%ers”, and ”Sellout Love”. My buddy Adam Becvare was a mountain of authority on the geetar just like he was when the Lords Of The New Church visited Copenhagen a few years back. That young dude is rock’n’roll incarnated! And Jay Millette also laid down some excellent licks, a little guy with a BIG guitar sound. The Vancouver boys ended the set with a blistering version of Misfits’ ”Where Eagles Dare”. A perfect ending for a great r’n’r nite, but please don’t put Black Halos and Digger & The Pussycats on the same nite again, if my bike had failed me I’ve been very frustrated, since I don’t have StarTrek ’beam me up, Scotty’ powers.
