Marble Sheep + Drive by Shooting
- Loppen, Christiania 3/24/06

By Scott

Well, we don’t get that many bands coming from Japan to Denmark but when they do show up they are almost always great, so why did only 30 people show on this clear, cold night, with no excuses??? This was a damn great show and Marble Sheep, who have been around for nearly 20 years, really showed the audience what psychedelic rock is all about. Anyway, a cool three piece Berlin based band, Drive by Shooting got to rock out for 40 minutes to about 20 people but they did not mind. They had good catchy songs and although they started off slowly, by mid set they were rocking and the people were up front and digging it. The band had some unusual grooves and a cool psych guitar sound and just good songs.. Cool band..

It only took 20 minutes and the Japanese were ready to rock. Now we had two guitarists armed with Stratocasters, a small 140cm tall female bass player who just smiled the whole time and was a joy to watch, and two hard rocking drummers. What a sound…on my sound meter on the phone is said >115db and wow it was fucking loud. The band played a wide range of old and new songs with 8 songs in the main set and they had Ancient listed on the setlist for the encore but ended up played 2 more songs as the crowd was really into it. This was the 2nd to last night of the tour and they had a great time. Anyway, they had a great sound and a great mix of tracks, from shortish garage rock songs (little bit of Heaven) to long psyched out jams with massive guitar solos, but the thing with them was they had these two drummers and bassists that just kept locked into a almost hypnotic killer groove that let the music flow and not seem too chaotic. Just a damn great show. IF they come again, no way will I miss the show but this was there first time to tour Europe and with only 30 people showing up on a Friday night, we probably will never see them again in Denmark, sadly….
