Peter Pan Speedrock + Cheetah’s Tail + Los Retardos
- March 30th, Loppen

By Jens

Like General Patton steamrolled over any resistance during WWII, Peter Pan Speedrock obliterated everything in site tonite, but more about them later. Local beer punx Los Retardos were first in the ring and played maybe the shortest set I’ve seen’em do. We got hardrockin’ faves like ”Liqour Store Whore” and their token cover of Dead Boys’ ”Sonic Reducer”. I don’t know if it was because most people were only waiting for Peter Pan Speedrock, or bassplayer Simon mostly thought about his US tour with Gorilla Angreb the day after, haha, he was unusually short on banter between songs. The performance was solid, new killer skinbasher Lasse (also in Hjertestop) pounded his cowbells with glee, and Andy Exciter laid down some mean licks, but it wasn’t the best Los Retardos gig I’ve seen.
Cheetah’s Tail, on the other hand, played the best gig I’ve seen’em so far, much better than their Stengade show. Julie has really grown as a frontwoman and she made fun of their songs (”It all sounds the same to me”, haha) which totally cracked me up. The lineup sports members of Nekromantix, Hellroute 16 and Strawberry Slaughterhouse but Cheetah’s Tail doesn’t really sound like any of those bands, more hardedged garagerock mixed with neat doses of powerpop. Heard they’ll soon be going into a studio to cut a demo, which I’m more than anxious to hear. Look out for Cheetah’s Tail, I think we can expect great things in the future from this new combo.
I’ve been a fan of Eindhoven’s finest speedpunk’n’rollers for years, but I never caught them on a stage, despite Peter Pan Speedrock is one of the busiest touring bands in Europe. The trio sorta relishes in every sex, drugs & rock’n’roll cliché known to man, and they’re greatly inspired by the likes of Zeke, Nashville Pussy and Motörhead, but rarely have I seen a group doing it as good and as tight as Peter Pan Speedrock did tonite. Like some angry prehistoric hellish creature they held the audience in an iron grip for over an hour with old faves like “Auf Der Axe” “Gotta Get Some” and some ragers of their new “Spread Eagle” album (their best yet) like “Cock Teaser” and the glorious anti-religion anthem “Damn You All To Hell”. This band was ON, especially Peter who handled the vocals and geetar with grit and a venomous energy seldom seen as he howled into the microphone like some possessed behemoth. Mission Rock’n’Roll Motherfuckin’ Accomplished!!!
