Pretty Vacant : A History Of Punk by Phil Strongman
If you have read "England's Screaming" or "Please Kill Me" this book on the early punk days isn't as obligatory as those. Still, Strongman's book gives a very personal and very interesting look especially on the London scene in 1976, the author witnessed The Sex Pistols' infamous gig at 100 Club Festival. He was friends with most of the main players in the English scene, and there's a lot of great interviews. We get behind the mystery of Malcolm McLaren, a fascinating character, as well as Sid Vicious and others. The American part of the book, and description of American proto-punk isn't that interesting compared to the English counterparts. All in all, a well written book you might wanna read after the classic punk rock books.
