![]() Had to leave and head north for this show right in the middle of the Lowcut r'n'r radioshow, but hey, Nebraska's proud sons Brimstone Howl were not to be missed, and thankfully it turned out to be the right decision since their set was as lethal as the bands I've seen at Gonerfest 5. Their album "We Came In Peace" which was brand new when we got it in the Goner store in Memphis is just as excellent as last year's "Guts Of Steel". This was the first gig Martin put up since we got home from the South, and once again Elværket proved to be the most important concert venue in eastern Denmark, forget about the clueless nitwits in Copenhagen. My girlfriend and our pal Laura had started early with the drinking when I met them, so the train ride were pretty entertaining. Later local hellraiser Kenni Cocksucker played grabass with them, that drunken pervert! When we arrived I had nice chat with Brimstone Howl, turned out they didn't even "We Came In Peace" with them, thank god for the Goner store. The new album is even more Gun Club-esque than previous releases, and their superior set was packed with new killer tunes like "They Call Me Hopeless Destroyer" and "Child Of Perdition" as well as the old Lowcut radio fave "Heart Attack". Man, did these youngsters rock hard or what? Tight, loud, and must important, HUNGRY! Hungry to show the world that Brimstone Howl is one of the most vital rock acts of the US of A. Basically they are a mix of sickass punkrock and classic rock, melody and aggression go perfectly hand in hand with this 4-piece. John Ziegler sang and strummed his guts out as did Nick Waggoner, while bassist Chauncey Patton spilled over with energy and Calvin Retzlaff's drumming kept a steady volatile beat. They played longer than most acts I've seen at Elværket which was neat cuz the boys had the songs! Afterwards fatigue was setting in since I barely had survived the monster space rock jam saturday nite at Dragens Hule with Øresund Space Collective, so I didn't pay attention to the local band who played after Brimstone Howl. Hell, we also missed the last train and had to stay and party, and yeah Kenni Cocksucker grabbed my girlfriend's ass...but that's okay, Kenni is King Louie-approved. ![]() Photos: Mette Huus Christensen ![]() |
